Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent, the renowned French fashion house established by Yves Henri Donat Mathieu-Saint-Laurent, is commonly known as YSL.

At just 17 years old, Laurent commenced his journey in the fashion industry by working as an assistant to Christian Dior. Following Dior’s passing four years later, Laurent assumed the leadership of the House of Dior, becoming its head at the youthful age of 21. However, due to the Algerian War of Independence in 1960, he was conscripted into the military, consequently losing his position at Dior. This unexpected turn led to a period of despair and a subsequent hospitalization. Yet, after a brief recovery, Laurent embarked on establishing his own fashion company, ultimately rising to prominence as one of the most influential fashion designers of the 1960s and 1970s.
